Abstract
Aflatoxin M1 (AFM) is one of of many animals biotransformation products of aflatoxin B1 (AFB); The role of AFB1 as well as that of AFM1 as a potent hepatotoxic agent and hepatocarcinogen have been demonstrated. Ruminates and other iactating animals have been shown to secrete AFM1 in milk after been fed AFB1-Contaminated feed. About 1 to 3 per cent of AFB1 is recovered in the milk as AFM. AFM1 distribution in dairy products seems to be due to its strong binding to the casein fraction of milk.
